Celebrity (game)

Celebrity (also known as Celebrities or Lunchbox) is a party game where teams play against each other to guess as many celebrity names as possible before time runs out.

Setup

Before play begins, every player receives several slips of paper (usually 10 for one round, or 5 or fewer for multiple rounds), and writes the name of a different celebrity on each. The names must be kept secret. All of the names are then placed in a hat, or similar receptacle.

What's a legal name? While the game is called Celebrity, the names in the hat are not limited to those of famous figures from popular culture. Other acceptable names are those of fictional characters (e.g., Sherlock Holmes), famous animals (e.g., Lassie), or any name that is well known to the group of players. Players may decide at this point on a guideline for how obscure the names can be, such as A name is permissible if it is expected to be familiar with at least half of the players.

After all the names are in the hat, the players are split into two or more teams of three or more players.

"Celebrity" is a song by the Canadian-based band Barenaked Ladies released from their album Everything to Everyone. The song was only released as a single in the United Kingdom, and peaked at #81 there.

The song was written by band members Kevin Hearn, Steven Page, and Ed Robertson.

Washington is a town in the City of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England, and part of historic County Durham. Washington is located geographically at an equal distance from the centres of Newcastle, Durham and Sunderland, hence it has close ties to all three cities.

Washington was designated a new town in 1964; it expanded dramatically, by the creation of new villages and the absorption of areas of Chester-le-Street, to house overspill population from surrounding cities.

At the 2011 census, its urban subdivision (which contains the neighboring settlement of New Herrington) had a population of 67,085.

Name

Early references appear around 1096 in Old English as Wasindone. The etymological origin is disputed and there are several proposed theories for how the name "Washington" came about. Early interpretations included Wasindone (people of the hill by the stream, 1096), or Wassyngtona (settlement of Wassa's people, 1183).

Washington (footballer)

Washington Stecanela Cerqueira, or simply Washington (born April 1, 1975 in Brasília), is a retired association footballer who played striker.

Career

In Turkish league 2002–2003 season he scored 10 goals in 17 games and then he was released by Fenerbahçe because of his health problems.

Washington was submitted to a coronary catheterization. Once recovered, physicians told him that playing football would not represent a risk to his condition. Then he signed with Atlético Paranaense where he was 2004 Série A top-scorer with 34 goals and broke the league's record. For his recovery, he was dubbed Coração Valente, the title of the movie Braveheart in Brazil.

In 2005 he moved to Japan to play for Tokyo Verdy in the J. League Division 1. He had a successful season there with 22 goals in 33 games but could not save his club from relegation. In 2006 he transferred to Urawa Red Diamonds and helped the Reds win their first ever J. League Division 1 title, becoming the top scorer in the league with 26 goals in 26 games. In 2007, he became 2007 FIFA Club World Cup top scorer and his team finished in third place.

Washington station (CTA Blue Line)

Washington (also Washington/Dearborn) is a rapid transit station on the Chicago Transit Authority's 'L' system. It is situated between the Clark/Lake and Jackson stations on the Milwaukee-Dearborn subway segment of the Blue Line in downtown Chicago near the Richard J. Daley Center.

History

Washington opened on February 25, 1951, as part of the new Milwaukee-Dearborn subway, the second of a planned series of subways to be constructed in Chicago. The station was entirely renovated from 1982 to 1984. As constructed, the station had two stairways to a lower level pedestrian transfer tunnel to the Washington station in the State Street Subway (now part of the Red Line). At 12:00 a.m. on October 23, 2006, the lower level transfer tunnel to the Red Line was closed as part of the construction of a planned superstation under what is commonly referred to as Block 37. On November 20, 2009, the pedway linking the Lake station's unpaid area to that of Washington reopened and in May 2013, the CTA provided a farecard transfer through the pedway between the stations.
